Ladies’ Viagra
Majid Ali, M.D
The three oldest professions are:
1. Sellers of blessings from the spirits for whatever they can get for their blessings;
2. Sellers of bodies for gratification for whatever they can get for them; and
3. Sellers of diseases for whatever anyone can pay for their diseases.
I anticipate the question concerning the last-mentioned profession: sellers of remedies are known but what do I mean by sellers of diseases. This is a valid question and requires clarification.
People who sell remedies first need to sell themselves. The sellers in this category (healers is the name they prefer for themselves) have the absolute necessity of establishing their superiority over their clients (patients is their prefer designation for them). What could be better tool for it for them than inventing diseases. The weirder the name of the disease, the more intimidating it is.
I cite three recent examples to make my case:
1. SEID, short for Systemic exertion-induced disease
2. HSDD, short for Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder
3. GGGG, short for Good for the Goose, Good for the Gander
In the interest of full disclosure, I invented the third disease just for this article. I want to let the reader know how amazingly convenient it is for us doctors to invent diseases. There is no law against it. As long there are those who will readily buy our newly-minted diseases, we will continue to mint them. Next, the first two newly minted diseases listed above.
SEID
Systemic exertion-induced disease (SEID) is the brand new disease name imagined for chronic fatigue by the brightest of the imaginators at the National Academy of Science in Washington. They get paid well by our tax dollars and they do work hard to earn their keep. Now that we have a new disease, new drugs for it cannot be far behind. (read my articles on SEID and CFS for more information)
HSDD
Here is something that might interest the reader about the hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). Flibanserin is the name of the new dug being currently fought over. The drug makers has doctors on its payroll fighting for the drug approval by the FDA. This, you would expect, will be opposed by people who think they can talk better their clients (talk therapist, by popular name). They have The New York Times hooting for them (see its op-ed on Feb. 27, 2015).
Sex Experts
Opinions of sex experts are always amusing. They are prolific creators of their diseases. They are unburdened by worrying about the scientific basis of any of their diseases. They have a great many theories but are blissfully ignorant of the neurobiological or evolutionary imperatives concerning their creations. Here is small sample of their creations:
* Desire first, then arousal, so goes the slogan of one group.
* Desire is responsivenes to erotic stimulation ot its anticipation.
What can a student of molecular biology of oxygen like me say about such lofty subjects. So I won’t say anything on the subject except to suggest that the readers consider my course entitled “Dr. Ali’s gender Devolution Course” posted at http://www.AliScience.org.
Long live Ladies’ Viagra.
